This past weekend, as I was thinking about the many challenges that face all of us in our personal and professional lives, I was drawn to a book that I found quite inspiring. Many of you may be familiar with the work of Brené Brown. Her book Dare to Lead: Brave Work. Tough Conversations. Whole Hearts is, in my opinion, a book for this time. Big questions about leadership and bravery, openness to feedback, and heartfelt willingness.
I was captured by the lead quote: “Leadership is not about titles or the corner office. It’s about the willingness to step up, put yourself out there, and lean into courage. The world is desperate for braver leaders. It’s time for all of us to step up.”
Thinking about leadership at this time… a time so different than just a few weeks ago. What does it take to keep important efforts moving forward? How can we support ourselves and our teams? How can we achieve the important results that serve institutional missions? All meaningful questions. I won’t say difficult. Different.
I recommend this read. I recommend reading and discussing it with others. I recommend the thoughtful workbook that accompanies this book on Dare to Lead Hub!
As days continue to be blurry, the challenges many, this has been my opportunity to have a refreshing change of pace that serves today and helps guide the future. As I think through recommendations for optimizing the use of Ellucian Banner® as policies are rapidly changing, or wonder about how to support remote student advisors through DegreeWorks I think of all my colleagues leading bravely. Thank you.
Ferrilli, and our leadership practice, are here for you. Reach out if we can help.
